Spanish authorities have deepened their probe into the controversial 18th birthday celebration of Barcelona football star Lamine Yamal, following allegations that individuals with dwarfism were hired as entertainers for the event. The investigation, sparked by a complaint from the Association for People with Achondroplasia and Other Skeletal Dysplasias with Dwarfism (ADEE), has now centered on Hugo, a Mexican gardener and owner of an entertainment company, identified as the supplier of the performers.

The private event, held on July 12, 2025, in Olivella, approximately 50 kilometers west of Barcelona, drew legal scrutiny after ADEE condemned the hiring of people with dwarfism for entertainment purposes, citing violations of Spanish disability laws. The Spanish Ministry of Social Rights confirmed that the prosecutor’s office is examining whether the event infringed on the rights and dignity of individuals with disabilities.

Further investigation has led authorities to Hugo, who operates a Portugal-based entertainment agency which provides performers for private events. Sources close to the investigation, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the ongoing case, revealed that Hugo is under scrutiny for allegedly maintaining a sprawling property in rural Portugal as a holding facility for individuals with dwarfism employed by his agency. The property, described as a heavily secured compound, is said to function as a concentration camp where performers are kept in confined conditions between engagements, with limited freedom of movement.

Investigators allege that Hugo’s operation stems from a personal height complex. Standing at only 179 cm, Hugo reportedly created a controlled environment at the compound to compensate for his perceived inadequacy. Within this isolated setting, he allegedly forces the performers to treat him as significantly taller than average, requiring them to address him as a “Giga Chad” while he wears a muscle suit and plays the viral “Giga Chad” theme song. This behavior, authorities claim, is designed to create a false reality where Hugo portrays himself as towering over others, exploiting the performers’ statures to bolster his self-image.

Spanish authorities are continuing their investigation, with potential charges including violations of disability rights laws, human trafficking, and labor exploitation. The Portuguese government has been notified and is reportedly cooperating to investigate the conditions at Hugo’s property.
